Powered by HipHop (Formerly UC Crew) is a National Award Winning Hip Hop Social Action Organisation based in St Helens, Merseyside. We use Hip Hop art forms and youth activities to improve local communities and make them a better place to live, work and grow.
Join us for award-winning Hip Hop workshops! From Break Dancing to DJing, we use the power of art to uplift communities. Started in 2005, now a nationally acclaimed nonprofit, we’re the go-to in the North West for Hip Hop and Breaking classes. With the rising popularity of Breaking (Break Dance) after its inclusion in the 2024 Olympics, we’re here to meet the demand with exciting classes for kids, teens, and adults.

We provide class passes suitable for all levels, abilities and motivations.
We advise that all beginners start on the Bronze Class Pass (4 weeks) to master the foundation moves before progressing onto the power moves and routines classes which are in the Gold and Silver Class Passes, suitable for intermediate-level or teenage students.

MEET THE CREW
FROM DANCE TEACHERS TO FOUNDERS
Back in 2004 two brothers (Tom ‘Tozz’, Director and John ‘Moose’, Coach) started teaching themselves break dancing from their living room. Hungry to learn more and find a spot in their community, they found their local area didn’t have one. So what else would two twenty-somethings do?
They built it themselves.

Our School Workshops are perfect for primary, secondary, college and university students, as we’re able to offer workshops that link directly towards a subject that the students are currently learning or relate to workshops to an awareness project that your are planning. i.e. Multicultural Week, Student Volunteers Week, Black History Month and Hip Hop History Month.

How Hip Hop Helped Improve Recycling in St Helens
UC Crew, now Powered by Hip Hop, helped improve recycling in St Helens, reaching 1,262 people and diverting 13 tonnes from landfill. More than a decade later, we continue to use Hip Hop and creativity to encourage recycling, reuse and environmental action.
Break Dance Classes Formby: A Young Person’s Journey to St Helens
One young person travelled from Formby to St Helens for specialist Break Dance classes, where they developed confidence, learned about Hip Hop culture and began sharing their skills with friends. We are also searching for memories of Break Dancing and Body Popping in Formby.
