How the UK Budget affects Break Dance, Hip Hop and Parkour Clubs
The Autumn Budget announcement saw many potential changes and challenges for our sector and the communities we support.
We welcome the announcements that will continue the core work of organisations, that benefit communities through Break Dance, Hip Hop and Parkour.
- £1 billion for the Household Support Fund (HSF) and Discretionary Housing Payments in 2025-26
– The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UK SPF) will continue for a further year, at a reduced rate of £900 million
– £240 million for Pathfinder projects for employment support programmes, as part of plans in the Get Britain Working White Paper
– An additional £1.3 billion for local government, including £600 million for social care and £230 million for homelessness and rough sleeping.
The increase in the national living wage is welcome, but, coupled with the increase in employer national insurance contributions, it challenges organisations like ours to cover additional costs.
The Budget announced additional funding for social care, homelessness, Household Support Fund, special educational needs, and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which will bring some relief, although many local authorities will still face significant budgetary pressures.
The National Sector Partners Group (NSPG) has issued the following response to the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget 2024.
A step to “fix the foundations” but sport, recreation and physical activity sector left absent from the role it can play in supporting the economy and the health of the nation.
The announcement of funding to support children and young people through investment in breakfast clubs and support for elite and grassroots sport through investment in multi-use facilities are welcomed by the sector, as a way to encourage greater daily physical activity for all generations.
Integral to this is a highly skilled sport and physical activity sector workforce, and the recognition today of the role of skills development in driving economic growth is positive.
The NSPG (National Sector Partners Group has continually demonstrated the value of increasing levels of physical activity among the population in direct savings for the NHS, increased productivity and wellbeing benefits. Sport England’s recent social value report detailed that our sector is directly responsible for generating over £100 billion in social value and relieving pressure on the NHS through £10.5 billion a year in health and social care savings.
